Less than two years after his doctorate, Rodrigo Szostak had the satisfaction of seeing his name as the first author of a scientific article on the cover of a very high impact journal, Chemical Reviews (impact factor 62.1). “It  was a great challenge and also a satisfaction to participate in the article, because the journal is very important in the field of chemistry (it is read by almost the entire community) and also because the article is quite comprehensive and extensive”, says Rodrigo, who has been a CINE member since the Center’s creation.

With 77 pages and 418 references, the article presents a review of the results achieved to date in the study of perovskite materials thanks to the use of cutting-edge analysis techniques. The authors show how these scientific advances have accelerated the technological development of perovskite solar cells.

In addition to writing this story, Rodrigo was one of its protagonists. In his PhD at Unicamp, which was supervised by Ana Flávia Nogueira and Hélio Cesar Nogueira Tolentino, he developed and used methods that reveal the properties of perovskites while these materials are forming, in real time.

And now, as a postdoctoral fellow at the Brazilian National Synchrotron Light Laboratory, the young scientist is continuing these studies. In addition to having the excellent infrastructure of Sirius (the new Brazilian synchrotron), Rodrigo had the opportunity to carry out a week-long scientific mission at the synchrotron of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (United States), funded by CINE, to carry out a series of experiments. “The experience in Berkeley was important to visit a laboratory abroad with unique equipment, in addition to interacting with other researchers who have been doing excellent work in the area”, says the postdoc.
