Researchers from CINE and their collaborators studied the long-term performance of a material capable of catalyzing the nitrate reduction reaction. This process enables the production of ammonia—a chemical widely used across various industries—from nitrate, a pollutant found in aquatic environments. “Our work details what happens to the catalyst’s structure, offering insights into how to promote ammonia production,” says Matheus P. Renewable energy in China
Bruno Bitarães Neto Salgado Brandão, a technology transfer fellow at CINE, traveled to China to participate in a renewable energy program that included visits to energy companies in seven Chinese cities. “The main objective of this mission was to understand the integration model between universities and companies in China,” says Bruno, who has been working at the interface between CINE and companies since early July. Royal Society of Chemistry
Representatives from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) publishing house visited CINE in July. Michaela Mühlberg (Executive Editor of the scientific journals Materials Horizons, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B & C, and Materials Advances) and Elizabeth Magalhães (RSC Manager for Brazil) visited CINE’s headquarters and several laboratories. Additionally, Michaela gave talks at IQ-UNICAMP and IQSC-USP offering tips on publishing scientific articles. These sessions were attended by numerous CINE members.
Fraunhofer Institute
Professors Ernesto Pereira (UFSCar) and Raphael Nagao (UNICAMP)—respectively the coordinator and a researcher for CINE’s Low-Carbon Hydrogen division—visited the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology (IGB) in Straubing, Germany, on June 15 and 16. The visit aimed to initiate a long-term partnership with the renowned German research institute, which is globally recognized for its work in innovation and technology transfer. The collaboration will combine CINE’s expertise in developing new electrocatalysts with Fraunhofer’s infrastructure and experience in process engineering and technology scale-up. This partnership is expected to accelerate the translation of fundamental research into industrial applications and boost CINE’s international visibility.
CINE Director Ana Flávia Nogueira (UNICAMP) served on the organizing committee for the 27th International Conference on Science and Technology of Synthetic Electronic Materials (ICSM 2026), a renowned event in the field of organic electronics held in Rio de Janeiro from July 19 to 24. Additionally, the CINE researcher was the local organizer for the Sixth Conference on Women in Renewable Energy and Sustainability (WiRES), which took place within ICSM on July 21 and 22. The WiRES program featured invited lectures by seven distinguished female scientists and a panel discussion on the role of women in renewable energy and sustainability, in which Professor Ana Flávia participated as a panelist.
