In a CINE study, computational and experimental scientists combined expertise to improve an emerging photovoltaic technology: 2D perovskite solar cells. “The bridge between computational and experimental research accelerates the development of more efficient technologies,” says doctoral student Israel Ribeiro, first author of the scientific paper. The team of researchers studied, at the atomic scale, how changes in the thickness of this extremely thin material impact its properties. The results allowed them to develop a set of practical guidelines for optimizing the production of 2D perovskites. Learn more.
Panel for Executives, Entrepreneurs, and Investors
CINE´s Diretor, Ana Flavia Nogueira, participated in a panel discussion with Itau Unibanco’s ESG leader, Luciana Nicola, at Cubo Conecta, which is the largest event organized by Cubo Itau. The scientist highlighted the important role of research in decarbonizing the economy and Brazil’s competitive position in this process. She emphasized that, for this to be successful, “we need investment in technological innovation and the participation of the government, the private sector, and academia to develop a local industry.” Learn more.
Joint Workshop of EG and AES Divisions with Innovative Format
Approximately 90 CINE members participated in the joint workshop of the divisions Energy Generation and Advanced Energy Storage. Thanks to the event’s unique format, all participants were able to experience all the research presented and select the ten best posters. “We hope that new contributions will emerge from the exchange of experiences we had, and that all researchers gained an overview of CINE and understood how their individual work is part of the whole,” says Professor Mateus Giesbrecht, who coordinated the event. CINE-Itau Workshop on Low-Carbon Hydrogen
Technological, economic, social, environmental, and legal aspects of the production and use of low-carbon hydrogen were addressed at the third workshop of the Energy Transition Track, held within the CINE-Itaú partnership. “Now, finally, we are understanding what the true role of sustainable hydrogen can be,” said CINE researcher Cauê Ribeiro, who gave one of the four presentations at the event and advocated for the use of the green molecule in Brazil in fertilizer production. In his lecture, Cauê discussed the advantages and challenges of producing hydrogen from biogas. Learn more.
