Advances in materials and devices for the energy transition in Latin America are the subject of a themed collection of scientific articles launched by the journal Materials Advances, from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).

The collection was edited by three researchers from CINE: Ana Flávia Nogueira (Director of our center), Gustavo Doubek and Hudson Zanin (respectively, Co-Principal Investigator and Principal Investigator of the Advanced Energy Storage division).

“It is with great satisfaction that we present a collection of articles that shows the impact of research in Latin America on devices for energy storage, conversion and generation”, says Professor Ana Flávia.

Fifteen scientific articles make up the collection, which addresses topics such as feedstock and materials for batteries, production of solar fuels, conversion of greenhouse gases into products, photocatalysis, emerging solar cells and fuel cells.

Scientists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba and Ecuador authored the works along with authors from other regions. “The articles show the great progress in the area of materials and devices in Latin America, a process that began more than twenty years ago, albeit slowly, and that has gained momentum in recent years, reflecting the increase in investments in the area of renewable energy and sustainability,” says the Director of CINE.

Researchers from our center are present as authors in seven of the fifteen articles. “In this collection, CINE demonstrates its great participation as a leader in research on energy transition in Latin America,” comments Ana Flávia.
