Dear readers,

As we close another cycle, I feel immense satisfaction and pride in reflecting on the achievements of the Center for Innovation on New Energies (CINE) in 2024. This year was marked by significant advances, culminating in the signing of the agreement for the second phase of CINE, a historic moment that symbolizes the consolidation of our role as a national and international reference in research focused on the energy transition.

Since our founding in 2018, with the support of FAPESP and Shell Brasil, we have faced many challenges. Thanks to the dedication of each researcher, student and collaborator, we have been able to overcome barriers and establish the solid foundations that today allow us to advance to new levels. I firmly believe that only with strong integration between fundamental and applied research and technological innovation we will be able to build concrete solutions for the low-carbon energy matrix.

In 2024, we launched 15 new innovative projects, which reinforce our commitment to developing essential technologies for the generation and storage of clean energy. Brazil has extraordinary potential to lead the global energy transition, not only due to its abundance of natural resources, but also due to our ability to generate cutting-edge knowledge and train excellent professionals.

We have made significant progress this year, with emphasis on the development of perovskite devices, batteries, supercapacitors, green hydrogen and computational modeling of materials. This demonstrates, once again, that CINE is an essential center for technological innovation and energy sustainability. The signing of the agreement with Shell, FAPESP, UNICAMP, USP and UFSCar, with investments of R$82.4 million, is a collective achievement that fills us all with hope and responsibility.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to all members of CINE. Without the commitment, dedication and passion of our researchers, students and collaborators, none of this would be possible. I would especially like to thank the Principal Investigators of the research divisions: Juarez L. F. Da Silva, Hudson Giovani Zanin, Ernesto Chaves Pereira and Mateus Giesbrecht, without whom our achievements would not have been possible.

A special thanks to our Deputy Director, Camila Brandão, and to all the administrative staff, whose work is essential to the smooth running and success of CINE.

I am certain that the coming year will bring new challenges, opportunities and achievements, and together we will reaffirm our commitment to transforming knowledge into sustainable solutions.

I wish everyone an excellent end of the year, full of achievements and moments of peace with their families. May 2025 be an even more productive year, with significant advances for CINE and for the future of clean energy in Brazil.

A big hug,

Ana Flávia Nogueira
