Professor Elton Sitta (UFSCar), a researcher at CINE, is a co-editor of the book “Contribuições da Química para os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável” (Contributions of Chemistry to the Sustainable Development Goals), published by EdUFSCar. The book was officially launched on June 16 in Campinas, São Paulo, during the 49th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Chemical Society (RASBQ).

Through 11 chapters covering various scientific advances that help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the book highlights the role of chemistry in addressing global challenges at the intersection of scientific research, technological innovation, and sustainability.

According to Professor Elton, the book is recommended for undergraduate and graduate students in chemistry and related fields, as well as for professionals, researchers, and faculty members interested in integrating sustainable development concepts into their academic or technological activities.

The idea for the book originated within the UFSCar Department of Chemistry, emerging from a committee—of which Professor Elton is a member—dedicated to proposing initiatives that promote sustainability. The publication was supported by FAPESP.

The CINE researcher co-edited the book alongside Professor Arlene Corrêa (UFSCar) and authored two chapters. Other members of the Center also contributed chapters: Professors Lúcia Mascaro and Ernesto Pereira (UFSCar), researcher Caue Ribeiro (Embrapa), and PhD candidate Lauren dos Santos Moreti (UFSCar). “The theme aligns strongly with CINE’s areas of activity; our focus on solutions for the energy transition connects directly to several SDGs, such as Affordable and Clean Energy (7), Climate Action (13), and Sustainable Cities and Communities (11), among others,” says Professor Elton.

The book is available in both print and digital formats. The physical edition can be purchased directly from the EdUFSCar website. The digital version (e-book) is available on major platforms in Brazil: Amazon (Kindle), Livraria Cultura (Kobo), Apple Books, and Google Books.
