Manufacturing Pathways for Next-Generation Batteries and Supercapacitors

Abstract:

The transition from laboratory-scale discoveries to industrial-scale energy storage systems remains one of the most critical challenges in electrochemical technologies. While significant advances have been made in the design of high-performance electrolytes, translating these advances into manufacturable solutions is often overlooked. This talk explores the fundamental links between electrolyte physicochemical properties and key manufacturing processes, such as electrode wetting, electrolyte infiltration, and cell assembly. Special attention is given to the often-underestimated role of electrolyte filling dynamics in porous electrodes and its impact on device performance, reliability, and scalability. By bridging molecular design with process engineering, this presentation highlights strategies for developing next-generation electrolytes that are not only high-performing but also compatible with large-scale production, paving the way for safer and more efficient energy storage technologies.

Raissa Venâncio is a Renewable Energy Engineer and currently a postdoctoral researcher at CEPETRO, working on advanced electrolytes for high-voltage battery-like capacitors. She holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), with a focus on the development of electrolytes using in situ and operando electrochemical techniques combined with mass spectrometry. She also holds an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), with experience in thin film manufacturing and a background in renewable energy and materials research. Her current work focuses on hybrid electrochemical devices that bridge fundamental electrochemistry and process engineering to enable scalable, manufacturable energy storage systems.
