Scalable Photoelectrolyzer for Green Hydrogen Production<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Using materials widely available in Brazil, a scientific team developed an efficient photoelectrolyzer and tested it both in the laboratory and outdoors. The equipment produces hydrogen without carbon emissions by splitting the water molecule with the energy of sunlight, without needing electricity from external sources. “Our platform is ideal for industries that need clean hydrogen at specific points,” says Flavio Leandro de Souza, a researcher at CINE who led the work. Workshop for the Generation of Startups for the Energy Transition<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The third CINE event on entrepreneurship empowered thirteen master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral fellows to identify potential products in the technologies they are developing in the laboratory and to present real business opportunities to investors. “The event provided a 360-degree view of a venture; today I think about my startup in a completely different way,” says postdoctoral researcher Jo\u00e3o Marcos Kanieski, who wants to create a network of charging stations based on the use of stationary batteries. Growing Global Energy Leaders Program<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Through a partnership with CISTAR (a US energy research center), eight CINE students participated in an online course designed to develop essential skills for leaders working in the energy transition. Over six weeks, they learned to improve their interaction with people from other cultures and to consider the social impact of their projects. “The course showed me that intercultural communication, scientific ethics, and global awareness go hand in hand,” says Charles Alves Nogueira de Almeida, a doctoral student at CINE. Visit to Research Groups in Australia<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Professor Marcos G. Quiles (Unifesp), vice-coordinator of the Computational Materials Design division at CINE, visited Sydney in August to strengthen academic collaborations with leading research groups in the field of computational science: the groups of Professor Gustavo Batista (UNSW) and Professor Catherine Stampfl (The University of Sydney). At both institutions, the scientist gave lectures showcasing CINE’s advancements, emphasizing the role of artificial intelligence in the discovery of materials and molecules that can be fundamental to technologies for a low-carbon economy. According to Professor Marcos, the discussions with faculty and students from both universities “reinforced existing partnerships and opened doors for new joint initiatives.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Presentation of Contributions to Wind Energy in Portugal<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

In early September, postdoctoral researcher Isnardo Cadena Rodriguez participated in an international conference dedicated to topics related to the wind turbine research he conducts within the CINE Energy Generation division. The 16th International Conference on Vibration Problems (ICOVP-2025), held in Lisbon, brought together researchers in the field of vibrations and machine and structure dynamics. In his presentation, the postdoc showcased innovative solutions, capable of increasing reliability and reducing failures in renewable energy generation systems. According to Isnardo, \u201cthe event brought together renowned experts, creating a conducive environment for the exchange of knowledge and for strengthening CINE’s presence in global scientific networks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Low-Carbon Hydrogen at Electrochemistry Event<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A large number of members of the CINE Low-Carbon Hydrogen division participated in the 25th Brazilian Symposium on Electrochemistry and Electroanalysis (SIBEE), held in Aguas de Lindoia (SP) from October 20th to 23rd. The group included master’s and doctoral students, post-docs, and professors working at IPEN, UFSCar, and Unicamp. In oral and poster sessions, CINE members presented and discussed advances in research related to electrochemical processes of great importance in a low-carbon economy; mainly, the sustainable production of hydrogen from water and organic molecules. The event offered a privileged environment to exchange ideas, strengthen existing collaborations, and establish new cooperations.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
